Lent is the period of 40 days preceding Easter in the Christian calendar, commencing on Ash Wednesday. It is a time for introspection and readiness before the Easter festivities, mirroring Jesus Christ's sacrifice and solitary retreat into the desert for 40 days.
Annually, the Church observes Lent as a period of testing, akin to Israel and Jesus, where believers engage in abstinence, fasting, confession, and acts of mercy to fortify their faith and spiritual practices. The aspiration for every Christian is to emerge from Lent as a more robust and devout individual.
Advent is a season commemorated in several Christian denominations as a period of hopeful anticipation and groundwork for the commemoration of Jesus' birth at Christmas. The term "Advent" originates from Latin, signifying "coming," symbolizing the imminent arrival of Jesus.
Although Advent is largely perceived as a festive time, it also serves as a preparatory phase similar to Lent, advocating prayer, penitence, and fasting during this period.
